Recently I was invited as a guest speaker to a UK University, to discuss the work possibilities and the future of Publishing. Interesting questions were raised from students, asking whether printed publishing is all going into digital; and what future new roles will be opening in the industry.
My reply to the first question was, that definitely there is a rise in digital publishing and print on demand. Digital publishing can be anything from fiction books and school books to magazines and newspapers. It is easier to scroll down a page on your mobile than carrying a book or books with you. Also, you can choose from thousands of books on the screen of your mobile, laptop etc. Saying that, doesn’t mean printed version will disappear. They do have their niche and faithful market.
The second question, was a bit tricky to answer to. More virtual job roles have opened since the pandemic. Companies are hiring virtual assistants, virtual tech people and many more. New digital names have been given to job posts. Are we seeing an increase in virtual working? The most important questions is: Are these roles here to stay? This part I will try to answer it, briefly, in the next month’s note.
As I always say, stay tuned for more informative and exciting articles!
